Work rolls for Hokies' football practice field

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech athletics department received all the proper permits and paperwork to take over the occupancy of its new $21.3 million indoor practice facility, and now expects work to be completed within the next couple of days on its outdoor practice field.

Carolina Green Sod, a company based outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, is handling the project, and a crew of 13 workers spent a portion of Monday afternoon and all day today laying down rolls of Latitude 36 Bermuda turf. They expected to be finished on Wednesday.

Tech officials went with this strain of Bermuda because it holds up better in colder weather.
