Dropping two out of their last three games and opening ACC play on Sunday afternoon at home against Duke, Thursday night's ACC/SEC Challenge game at Cassell Coliseum against Florida could have been considered a must-win for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team.
The Gators came into the game winners of four straight and 8-1 overall. The two teams combined for 40 turnovers, 22 by Florida and 18 by Virginia Tech, but when the dust settled, the Hokies' defense got more stops in the fourth quarter to escape with a four-point victory to improve to 7-2 on the season.
