The Virginia Tech Hokies were back in action on Friday in the Tuscaloosa Regional, defeating the Belmont Bruins 5-0 in the opener.
Senior Emma Lemley was phenomenal. She pitched six innings, allowed one hit and two walks, and struck out nine batters. Cassie Gizzard closed out the game for the Hokies, allowing one walk in one inning of work.
Freshman third baseman Jordan Lynch got the Hokies on the board first, smacking a home run down the right-field line in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0. Lynch wasn’t done, as she singled in the bottom of the third to drive in right fielder Cori McMillan to increase Virginia Tech’s lead to 2-0.
