University of Maryland Eastern Shore invaded the Cassell Wednesday night. The Hawks looked ready for the challenge early, leading 7-5 at the first media timeout. UMES came into the contest with a paltry 1-7 record, but you wouldn’t have guessed it judged on their start. The Hokies haven’t played in a week, but were riding high on a win against the Michigan Wolverines. Both teams had shooting woes early in the first half. The game was pretty sloppy as well, both teams had a combined seven turnovers in the first seven minutes. Former Hokie great, Ace Custis, was on hand as an assistant for the visiting Hawks.
