It wasn't the start to the game on late Sunday afternoon that Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy was hoping for. Hosting 4-7 East Tennessee State, the Hokies found themselves down 16-11 after one quarter.
Duffy's team was able to regroup and outscore the Buccaneers, 63-39, over the final three quarters to pull away for a 73-55 victory to improve to 9-3.
Carys Baker led the way with 22 points and eight rebounds for Virginia Tech. Northwestern transfer Mel Daley had 13 points and four rebounds, while Samyha Suffren had 12 points and four steals. Carleigh Wenzel had eight points and six rebounds, while Kilah Freelon (five rebounds) and Mackenzie Nelson (eight assists and three steals) each had seven points.
