Virginia Tech football: Freshman tight end confirms move to defensive end

One of Virginia Tech’s signees in the 2020 recruiting class is moving to the defensive side of the ball.

Wilfried Pene, a three-star tight end from St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, Connecticut, redshirted in 2020. At 6-foot-3, 257 pounds, Pene has the ideal size to play defensive end in Justin Hamilton’s defense.

He announced the move on his Instagram page, per 247Sports.

“It’s official, 2021 I will play defensive end,” Pene said.

The Hokies signed three defensive ends in the 2020 class and all are now elsewhere. First, Justin Beadles entered the transfer portal and landed at Houston.
