I remember being at the 2016/2017 Belk Bowl (now Duke’s Mayo Bowl) and spending time with various pro scouts before and during the game. It was an enlightening session that lasted until midway through the 4th quarter when most of the scouts had finally decamped and headed for the exits. That wasn’t the only encounter that I’ve had with scouts from various leagues, including the Canadian Football League, but this session really stuck since a stretch of 4 scouts from 4 different pro teams were sitting next to me in the press box during the game.
If you really want to know how uninformed most pro scouts are, or how biased toward particular programs and particular players in the process, just sit through a game or two with some scouts.
