DELAND, Fla. – An exciting sixth inning saw both Virginia Tech and Central Michigan put four runs on the board, but it was the Hokies, who had a three-run lead heading into the frame, and they were able to hold on for a 7-4 victory in their final game at Melching Field Wednesday afternoon.
Leading 3-0 through the first five innings, the Hokies quickly saw that advantage erased in the sixth when Central Michigan (2-10-1) scored four runs, thanks to a two-RBI double from Jacob Crum and a two-RBI single by Jason Sullivan.
However, the deficit was shortly lived as four of the next five Hokies reached base with Nick Menken delivering an RBI single that tied the game and JD Mundy putting Tech ahead with an RBI double.
