The conference awards keep on rolling in for Virginia Tech after a successful 9-4 regular season. The latest award was given to Justin Fuente on Thursday afternoon, as Athlon Sports announced that the first-year coach of the Hokies has won ACC Coach of the Year.
Fuente inherited a Virginia Tech team that had not eclipsed the nine win mark since the 2011 season, and in his first season in Blacksburg, a complete team effort saw the Hokies win nine regular season games, while taking the then-number three-ranked Clemson Tigers to the brink in the ACC Championship.
The conference championship appearance was the first for Virginia Tech since the 2011 season, when the Hokies lost to a familiar foe – the Clemson Tigers (they’re pretty good, by the way).
