On Saturday night, the annual Commonwealth Cup will be fought for in Charlottesville when Virginia Tech makes the trip to Virginia. One year ago, there was a lot at stake as both teams entered the game at 5-6, and a trip to a bowl game was on the line. When the dust settled, the Hokies came away with a 37-17 rout of the Cavaliers to earn a trip to the Duke's Mayo Bowl against Minnesota.
This season is a different story. Virginia Tech enters 3-8 and with an interim coach, Philip Montgomery, after Brent Pry was fired after a Week 3 loss to Old Dominion at home.
