Virginia Tech wraps up spring practice Saturday. Because of depth and injury issues, the Hokies will play a controlled scrimmage between offense and defense, with limited special-teams situations. Here are three keys to watch:
1. Quarterbacks. No surprise here, considering the coaches have not given many hints about how the competition is going, except to say Jerod Evans and Brenden Motley have separated themselves and earned more reps with the first team. But coach Justin Fuente has given no indication he is ready to declare a starter, no matter what happens Saturday. Evans transferred in from junior college and was the first player to commit to Fuente; Motley started several games last season after Michael Brewer got hurt.
