Five days after handing George Mason their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team was looking for their third straight win on Thursday night when they hosted Western Carolina in another non-conference game.
The Hokies scored 53 first-half points and took a 19-point lead into the locker room. In the second half, they didn't shoot as well as they did in the opening 20 minutes, but they were still able to coast to a victory to improve to 9-2 on the season, and the Catamounts fell to 4-6. Here are some observations from the Hokies' ninth win of the season.
