Women’s soccer returns as former Virginia players shine in NWSL Challenge Cup

Women’s soccer returned this past weekend as the NWSL Challenge Cup got underway in Utah. It was the first professional league in the United States to resume play after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic overtook the nation. The NWSL Challenge Cup is an eight-team, 23-game tournament that will span about a month.

Nine former Virginia Women’s Soccer players made a roster for the event that will air on CBS All Access (live) and CBS Sports Network (re-air).

For the first game, the North Carolina Courage — two-time reigning NWSL champs — squared off with the Portland Thorns.
