One hundred fifty-eight days before their 2018 season opener against Richmond, the Virginia Cavaliers took to the practice fields for the official start of spring practice.
NCAA rules permit fifteen spring practices, including a spring game, for all FBS programs. For those fifteen practices:
- The first three must be non-contact, helmets-only;
- Eight may involve tackling; and
- Three (including the spring game) may be 11-on-11 scrimmages for the majority of the practice session
That means a lot of the early practices will look like this
One of the main focal points for spring practice will be installing the spread-to-run, option-based attack with new quarterback Bryce Perkins.
