Virginia football prioritizes player safety, field hockey ranks top-10 in preseason poll

Another day, another look Around The Corner. Here’s what’s new with your Virginia Cavaliers on this wonderful Wednesday morning — today we’re taking a look at some cool technology that the football team is using, a look ahead at the Virginia field hockey team, and the aftermath of Tony Bennett landing that big four-star recruit just yesterday.

This is really cool. At-risk Virginia football players (primarily first years) apparently can swallow an ingestible temperature sensor before certain workouts and practices to allow trainers to monitor their body temperatures in real time. This tactic will hopefully help the team avoid a tragedy like the one at Maryland, where an offensive lineman died from heat stroke after a summer workout.
