The University of Virginia has announced that all events at the school on Saturday were cancelled because of the “Unite the Right” rally and counter-protest happening in downtown Charlottesville.
This includes the men’s soccer exhibition, which was scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Klockner Stadium, and two programs later this evening at Scott Stadium: Meet the Teams Night and Movie Night. Gates were to open for the latter events at 5 p.m., with a showing of Beauty and the Beast starting at 7:30 p.m.
The full statement from the University:
Due to the ongoing public safety concerns in downtown Charlottesville and as a result of both the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle declaring a local state of emergency, the University of Virginia is cancelling all scheduled events and programming today (Saturday) effective at noon.
