The Virginia women's team broke through on Monday, and it did so emphatically. After shooting -2 on Sunday to make the 15-team cut at the NCAAs, the Cavaliers followed up with their best round of the entire tournament. Virginia shot -6 on Monday and clinched a spot in the 8-team NCAA championship match play bracket. The Hoos will take on the University of Washington on Tuesday morning.
While upperclassmen have carried UVA during most of the postseason, freshman Morgan Gonzales was the team's star on Monday. Gonzales collected five birdies en route to a three-under round of 69.
