ESPN’s BPI is a team rating system for men’s Division I basketball that measures how powerful a team is likely to be going forward. It accounts for the game results, site, opponent strength, scoring margin (with diminishing returns for blowouts) and pace. ESPN’s Sports Analytics Team enhanced the model for the 2016 NCAA tournament by adding even more predictive features such as distance traveled from home, days' rest and altitude advantages.
