Virginia Cavaliers safety Joey Blount has been named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded to the country’s top scholar-athlete. As Virginia’s nominee, Blount is one of 199 semifinalists (85 in the FBS), a list that will be narrowed down to 12-14 finalists in November. Each finalist will receive a $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and a chance to have that number bumped to $25,000 if awarded the trophy.
To be nominated, each candidate must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.
