The Virginia football team released its Week 3 depth chart on Monday and it contained a big surprise.
Redshirt freshman De’Vante Cross is now listed as a backup at both wide receiver AND cornerback.
“There is a great chance he’ll be playing both ways for us going forward,” said UVA coach Bronco Mendenhall in his weekly press conference.
Cross was initially recruited as a quarterback in 2016. He has been cross training at QB and wide receiver throughout the off-season, and reacted positively to Mendenhall’s quote through his Twitter account.
The Cross news comes as Virginia continues to shuffle its defensive secondary following the injury to senior cornerback Tim Harris.
