Baseball’s Andrew Abbott Named Golden Spikes Semifinalist

On Tuesday, USA Baseball announced the 25 semifinalists for college baseball’s Golden Spikes award.

Established in 1995, the Golden Spikes award is handed out every year to college baseball’s “MVP,” akin to college football’s Heisman Trophy. Such winners in the past include Kris Bryant, Buster Posey, Bryce Harper, and Trevor Bauer.

After being named a preseason All-American, Abbott has not disappointed as the ace of UVA’s staff in 2021. He was named First Team All-ACC and amassed a 2.82 ERA, a .220 batting average against, and struck out 144 batters in just 95.
