The ACC is home to numerous defensive minded teams. As a result, the All-ACC defensive player of the year can be quite a contest. Last season’s honor went to Virginia’s Darion Atkins. As the Cavaliers rely heavily on their defense, it is entirely possible that they could provide the recipient this coming season as well.

Obi had to sit out last season due transfer rules, so he has yet to be truly tested in the ACC. Coming from Rice, Obi put up some impressive stats, such as a defensive rebounding percentage of 30.
