Villanova's coach was always believed to be a candidate for the Philadelphia 76ers gig following his first Final Four appearance in 2009, back when his buddy, Ed Stefanski, was running the organization. The word from those close to him was always that Wright was intrigued at the possibility of coaching at the next level.
But Wright stayed on the Main Line, his stock dipped and the NBA chatter disappeared.
