There was good news for the Golden Knights on Monday.
The NHL announced it had reached agreement with its Players Association and will extend the time period the Knights have to pursue free agents prior to the June 21 Expansion Draft.
Initially, the team would have just 48 hours to try and sign a free agent. Now, the time frame will be 72 hours beginning 7 a.m. (PST) June 18.
General manager George McPhee had asked the NHL for extra time.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly, who was with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman at Bettman’s State of the League news conference at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, said for the most part everything is in place to conduct the expansion draft.
