Marc-Andre Fleury’s return to Pittsburgh ends in 5-4 loss

PITTSBURGH — Ian Cole and Jake Guentzel scored 56 seconds apart late in the second period, and the Pittsburgh Penguins ruined Marc-Andre Fleury’s homecoming Tuesday night with a 5-4 win over the Golden Knights at PPG Paints Arena.

The loss dropped the Knights to 3-2 on the team’s six-game trip, which concludes Thursday at the San Jose Sharks.

Fleury, who was drafted by the Penguins in 2003 and was with the team through 2017 and won three Stanley Cups, received a hero’s welcome by the sellout crowd of 18,644. Chants of “Fleury” echoed through the building from pregame warmups and especially after a moving 1:45 video tribute to the goaltender that was shown with 13:03 remaining in the first period.
