Golden Knights surge to top of NHL with 5-1 win at Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Golden Knights scored early and often with three goals in the first 13 minutes and went on to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 Sunday at PNC Arena.

With the win, the Knights (31-11-4) now have the best overall record in the NHL with 66 points, one more than Tampa Bay. They also wrapped up their four-game road trip with a winning record (2-1-1) along with gaining a split in the season series with Carolina.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Colin Miller and Jonathan Marchessault all scored in the first period, chasing Hurricanes starting goaltender Scott Darling in favor of Cam Ward after surrendering three goals in just eight shots.
