CHICAGO — Reilly Smith’s breakaway goal with 6:07 to play broke a 4-4 third-period tie, and the Golden Knights defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 Friday night at the United Center for a split of their two-game Midwest trip.
Smith poke-checked the puck away from defenseman Connor Murphy and was off to the net. He beat Chicago goaltender Jeff Glass over his right shoulder for his 11th goal of the season.
Jonathan Toews’ goal 30 seconds into the third period broke a 3-3 tie, but Cody Eakin came back for the Knights to tie the score 4-4 at the 5:53 mark with his sixth goal of season after taking a feed from David Perron in the slot.
