COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals in a 1:46 span during the second period and beat the Golden Knights 4-1 Tuesday at Nationwide Arena.
The loss may have been costly for the Knights (42-19-5) as forward Reilly Smith went down in the final minute of the second period with what appeared to be an upper-body injury and did not return. Smith is second on the team in points with 60.
The Blue Jackets (34-28-5), who are fighting for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, wasted little time, scoring 16 seconds into the game as Artemi Panarin beat Marc-Andre Fleury.
