Golden Knights clock Canadiens 6-3, take over points lead in NHL

Reilly Smith finished with two goals and an assist, and Jonathan Marchessault added three assists in the Golden Knights’ 6-3 victory over the struggling Montreal Canadiens on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.

Ryan Carpenter had a goal and an assist for the Knights (39-15-4, 82 points), who jumped Tampa Bay for the top spot in the league standings based on points.

The Knights improved to 22-4-2 at home, tying the 1979-80 Hartford Whalers for most home victories by a team in its inaugural season.

Tomas Nosek, Brad Hunt and Nate Schmidt also scored for the Knights.

Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 30 shots, including a spectacular glove save to deny Charles Hudon early in the third period.
