Win not pretty, but that’s not a problem for Vandy’s Derek Mason

Derek Mason knows his Vanderbilt Commodores easily could have lost to Western Kentucky. He knows the numbers weren’t pretty. And he doesn’t care.

The number in the win column was all that mattered to the Vanderbilt coach after Saturday’s nail-biting 31-30 victory over Western Kentucky.

“I don’t care what the score is, I don’t care what the stat sheet looked like,” Mason told reporters. “All I know is that Vanderbilt won.”

The Commodores fought back from a 24-17 deficit against the Hilltoppers, forcing overtime on a Ralph Webb touchdown run with 1:02 to go.
