Oren Burks (20) intercepts a pass during the first quarter in a 27-16 loss to Ole Miss.
Despite both teams running a fast-paced, no-huddle offense, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss each started out slow. The star Ole Miss quarterback, Chad Kelly, had trouble connecting with his receivers, starting off the game with an overthrown ball right into the hands of Vanderbilt safety Oren Burks.
Even though Vanderbilt failed to capitalize off this drive, the Commodores followed up their next drive with a Tommy Openshaw 28-yard field goal. For the first time this season, Ole Miss trailed their opponent, but Vanderbilt did not keep the lead for long, with Chad Kelly hitting receiver Rebel Damore’ea Stringfellow for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
