In one of the bigger blowouts in Invitational history involving two Division I teams, the Commodores obliterated the St. John’s Red Storm 90-55 to advance to the tournament semifinals set to be played Tuesday.
After some offensive struggles against Stony Brook last week, the Commodores got back to their old ways, reeling off a 9-0 run in under three minutes to start the game. A pair of Red Storm timeouts in the first six minutes couldn’t stop Vanderbilt, as the Dores built an early 17-4 lead after back-to-back threes from Nolan Cressler.
“I thought our guys came out with a lot of intensity and purpose at the beginning of the game,” head coach Kevin Stallings said.
