Coming off a 4-8 season and with only two SEC victories in two years under coach Derek Mason, the Commodores were looking – above all else – for offensive improvement this spring. Vandy averaged a mere 15.2 points per game last season (124th nationally) and only 171.8 yards passing (112th).
A lot depends on sophomore quarterback Kyle Shurmur (6 feet 4, 222 pounds), who certainly looks the part of a starting quarterback. He’s big, with a strong arm and a high football IQ, not surprising given he’s the son of Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator/former Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur.
