Going into Saturday’s game at Georgia, Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason knew the formula for success. He just needed his team to execute its game plan. And they did just that in a 17-16 upset to give Mason his first win on the road in SEC play.
“It’s the biggest win that I’ve had probably in my career because I’m the head coach. I’m not an assistant coach,” said Mason, a former Stanford defensive coordinator and an assistant with several other college and pro teams. “This is a win that I think could help move this program forward.”
Stopping the run was the top priority and Vandy did just that, holding Georgia to just 75 yards on 35 attempts.
