The Vanderbilt football offseason coaching carousel continues to spin

In the wake of a 3-9 campaign in 2019, Vanderbilt still — somehow — has the same head coach. But already, the Commodores have replaced both coordinators and the offensive line coach. Meantime, cornerbacks coach Terrence Brown departed for Washington, and former LSU analyst Kenichi Udeze was hired to coach linebackers.

That last bit is important. In 2019, Matt Weikert served as the outside linebackers coach (Jason Tarver had inside linebackers in addition to his duties as defensive coordinator.) Why Vanderbilt would hire a single linebackers coach became clear today when Weikert announced via Twitter that he would be the new defensive coordinator at FCS Lamar:

And so we’re back to having a position open on the coaching staff.
