February 19, 2016: Vanderbilt's first baseball game of the season results in an 8-4 victory over San Diego at Hawkins Field.
The Tullahoma native pitched seven scoreless innings, tying a career high, and struck out a career-high 10 batters. He also only allowed five hits and one walk, lowering his season ERA to 0.75 in the process.
Sheffield was particularly effective early on with his command looking much improved compared to last season. He was able to navigate the first inning by using exclusively fastballs with the exception of the last pitch, a curveball in the dirt for a strikeout.
