Passing game woes keeping Vanderbilt dependent on Ralph Webb

What’s wrong with Vanderbilt’s offense?

It’s not Ralph Webb, who currently leads the SEC in rushing yards this season with 377 and needs only 708 yards away from breaking the Vanderbilt career rushing record.

Rather, the issue seems to be sophomore quarterback Kyle Shurmur, who despite throwing for a season-high 149 yards with a touchdown pass for the second consecutive game for the first time in his career, has been a weak point on the Commodores offense.

Unfortunately for Vanderbilt, Shurmur’s best statistics pale in comparison to even the most mediocre SEC quarterback.

A quarterback rating, or QBR, ranks a quarterback on his passing ability through a mathematical formula, so that a rating can be unbiased and factual.
