You would be forgiven for not realizing, given the state of the program in the Bryce Drew and early Stackhouse eras, that it’s been a few years since we’ve had no real reason as Vanderbilt basketball fans to watch the NBA Draft.
Last year, we watched Aaron Nesmith get taken pick #14 by the Boston Celtics. The year before, Darius Garland was taken pick #5 by the Cleveland Cavaliers (and Simi Shittu was not—Shittu not—though he did play for the Chicago Bulls G-League affiliate “The Windy City Bulls”).
In fact, 2018 was the last year no Vanderbilt players were taken, though a Vanderbilt was still chosen (Kentucky’s Jarred Vanderbilt at pick #41 to Orlando), so I’m counting it.
