The Vanderbilt Commodores have started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2011, mainly on the shoulders of quarterback Kyle Shurmur. In outscoring their first two opponents by a combined 70-6, the third year starting QB has completed an amazing 76 percent of his passes (35-of-46) for 498 yards with seven touchdowns.
The Philadelphia native has a better understanding of third-year coordinator Andy Ludwig’s offense and is in much better shape physically. He rushed for his lone career touchdown on the ground against Alabama A&M on Saturday, taking a hard shot that the 6-foot-4, 227-pound junior probably couldn’t have taken a few years ago.
