Vanderbilt struggled on offense in its season-opening loss to South Carolina, but coach Derek Mason isn’t planning drastic changes. Mason doesn’t plan a major shake-up against Middle Tennessee on Saturday, he said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Junior quarterback Wade Freebeck got some snaps against the Gamecocks, but Mason said he’s committed to sophomore Kyle Shurmur in the starting role.
“Freebeck is our back-up, Kyle Shurmur is our starter. … Freebeck is a situational player for us, and we will use him that way,” Mason said.
Shurmur largely struggled against South Carolina, going 8-of-22 for 73 yards.
