Derek Mason envisions more productive Vandy offense this season

Vanderbilt’s defense ranked in the top half of the SEC and 28th nationally last season, and the Commodores return eight starters from that unit. Suffice it to say, Vandy’s defense should be a team strength this season.

Now, about that Vanderbilt offense …

Heading into Thursday night’s season-opener against South Carolina, almost all of the questions about Vanderbilt surround the offense.

Last season, the Commodores averaged just 15.2 points per game, their lowest since averaging 12.9 in 1998. They also averaged only 326.5 yards total offense per game, ranking them 13th in the league and 116th nationally.
