Vanderbilt only mustered 23 passing yards through the entire game, 19 of them coming from freshman Kyle Shurmur. Aggies kicker Taylor Bertolet tied a school and SEC record with six field goals on the night.
The Aggies got right to work trying to pick apart the Vanderbilt defense, as it only took them a minute and 31 seconds to get the first points of the game, a 31-yard field goal by Bertolet. The Commodores tried to respond on the ensuing drive and marched deep into A&M territory, before being pushed out of field goal range.
