As first reported by The Tennessean, the 19-year-old Everett drowned while swimming in a Coffee County lake. An email sent to students by Associate Provost and Dean of Students Mark Bandas identified the site as Normandy Lake and stated Everett had been out fishing with friends.
“We learned last night of the tragic death of Donny Everett, an outstanding young man who exemplified the best of our university,” director of athletics David Williams said in a statement. “As you can imagine, the team, the athletic department and the university are trying to come to terms with this tragedy.
