Shurmur behind center
Sophomore Kyle Shurmur has been named as the team’s starting quarterback for this season. This approach is much different than last season, when head coach Derek Mason did not reveal a starter until the night of the first game.
“We’re not going to enter into the season like we did my first year—talking about multiple quarterbacks,” Mason told The Tennessean in July. “There is a [starter] and a [backup]. That’s it. That’s how firm I’m going to be.
