Autumn Newby becomes Stephanie White’s first recruit as Vanderbilt head coach

While the men’s basketball team was scoring a commitment from Maxwell Evans over the weekend, the women’s team saw their three-star recruit and raised them a four-star recruit.

Autumn Newby, a 6’2” forward from Lawrenceville (GA) Archer HS, is rated as the #27 prospect in the class of 2017 by ESPN and is, unofficially, Stephanie White’s first recruit as Vanderbilt head coach. She joins a program that signed two five-star recruits in the class of 2016.

While the Commodores are coming off a couple of disappointing seasons that resulted in the dismissal of former head coach Melanie Balcomb, there’s plenty of talent coming to the West End this year — both in the playing and coaching departments — and there’s a lot of reason to think the program is past the doldrums that characterized the last few years.
