Vanderbilt got off to a solid start in the first day of the SEC Championship when sophomore Abbey Carlson holed out on the 150-yard, par-3 second hole at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Alabama.

That was the highlight of the Commodores’ opening round at the tournament. Freshman Louise Yu notched three birdies on the front nine and carded a 2-under par 70 on the day to pace Vanderbilt. Yu ended the day in a tie for second in the individual standings, one shot off leader Kristen Gillman of Alabama.

Vanderbilt shot an 8-over 296 on the day, good for third place and 10 shots behind Alabama for the team lead.
