New Zealander Cory Brown selected by Whitecaps FC 62nd overall

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected defender Cory Brown in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Sunday. Over the next few days, Brown will either be invited to attend the club's first team camp or the club's USL affiliate Fresno FC.

Whitecaps FC opted to pass in the fourth and final round of the MLS SuperDraft. The club selected defenders Justin Fiddes and Lucas Stauffer in the first two rounds last Friday.

  • 80 starts and appearances in four years, two as captain, for the Xavier University Musketeers, tallying five goals and nine assists
  • 2016 Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year, four-time USC All-Great Lakes Region and All-Big East selection
  • Represented the New Zealand national team in the FIFA U-17 and U-20 World Cup tournaments

Brown, 21, made 80 starts and appearances for the Xavier University Musketeers, tallying five goals and nine assists, and represented the New Zealand national team in the youth levels.
