It’s safe to say that if Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning had a mulligan, he wouldn’t have handed out a six-year, $36 million contract to Loui Eriksson back in 2016.
Halfway through the contract, the Canucks have only received a total of 32 goals and 76 points in 196 games. The hope was that Eriksson would be a reliable 20 or 30-goal scorer playing on the top line.
For obvious reasons, the Canucks would love to get out of Eriksson’s contract. He’s 34 years of age, oft-injured, past his prime and carries a $6 million cap hit for three more years.
