The Vancouver Canucks surprised many by shutting down the Edmonton Oilers high-flying offence on Saturday, taking home a 3-2 win in the season opener.
New head coach Travis Green got contributions from his entire roster. Bo Horvat led the way with two goals, Jacob Markstrom had arguably his best game yet as a Canuck, and Brandon Sutter — along with the defence — shut down the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Obviously, it’s only the first game and the Canucks have a long season ahead of them.
