Vancouver Canucks Select F Jakob Stukel with 154th Pick

With the 154th pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Vancouver Canucks selected WHL Calgary Hitmen winger Jakob Stukel.

After going for two defensemen and one forward with their first three picks, the Canucks went for another forwardin Round 6. Candidates for the pick were basically the same as in the prior round — especially Burnaby native Ty Ronning was still an option.

The Canucks did go for a local player, as Stukel is a Surrey native. An overager, Stukel scored 34 goals and 56 points in 57 games for the Hitmen. He started the season with the WHL team that drafted him, the Vancouver Giants, but Calgary is where he really took off.
